Rug Of The Day - My Country

My Country
Adapted from the artwork of Lori Brechlin/Notforgotten Farm
Hooking in progress by Judy Glenn

My Country is the companion piece to Lady Liberty.  I have not hooked this one myself but I have color planned it several times.  I worked with Judy on her rug last fall at the Historic Franklin Rug Hooking Retreat.  Because of a lighter background, it was decided to go with a red house and a mustard house...I personally love to hook mustard houses and this one looks great!  If Judy would have hooked a white farmhouse, she would have had to do some outlining to make it pop from the background.  This is a fun design to play around with your red, white and blue textures....I consider that gold is a friend of  patriotic colors (flags with gold fringe) so add some antique gold into your color plan too!

I borrowed this version of My Country, hooked by Carolyn Cooke, from a rug hooking group's Face Book page.  I LOVE how Carolyn hooked the striped pants and hat like the traditional old-time Uncle Sam.  This is a great example of how you can hook this pattern in many different ways!  Bravo, Carolyn!

You can find the My Country pattern here:

PS:  Did you notice that the flag is flying from a tree branch in Uncle Sam's hands? Don't you love the playful whimsy in that?

Oh wow..... I love the red and white stripe pants and love the rich dark background with those olive (think they were olive) pants. Would be hard pressed to choose as they are both lovely choices of color. Good job ladies!!!
