Meet Jackson....he is the newest member of the Miller/Spruce Ridge clan! He is a 6 year old Yellow Lab that we adopted today from a rescue group. Crazy, isn't it, that I have gotten a new dog so soon?!?! It just sort of happened at the last minute....my son and I stopped by one of their "pet fairs" yesterday and talked to Jackson's foster mother. We hit it off right away and realized that Jackson had the personality we were looking for. Ken and I went back today and brought Jackson home. He has been a little clingy but the poor guy has been through a lot! He spent the afternoon playing catch and then cooled off in my studio. His tail was wagging the entire day. I think I have a new rug hooking buddy.
The name "Jackson" brings back a funny little story....
Several years ago, I was going to teach a rug hooking workshop in Mississippi. I arrived at Detroit Metro Airport for my flight and the ticket counters were mobbed with travelers. I patiently waited in a long line and finally reached the kiosk at Northwest Airlines to check my bags. All the agents were really busy so I did as much as I could on their check-in computer, and then had to wait patiently again for the computer to spit out my paperwork so an agent could weigh and tag my suitcase. A woman behind the counter called out:
No one stepped forward.
I looked around...where was this Mr. or Mrs. Jackson person who wasn't responding?
I realized that the agent was looking right at me with a stern look on her face...
I pointed to myself...."I'm Miller"
"YES....WELL, ARE YOU GOING TO JACKSON ??!!!"
oH dEAR! Yes, I was ..... going to Jackson Mississippi....eeeps!
I sheepishly handed over my suitcase while wishing that I could melt into the floor.....I think I mumbled something about not traveling much on them big ole' air-o-planes.....
Jackson looks so happy Kris!
Good luck with your new boy Kris and good for you on adopting a guy who needs a stable home. Loved seeing your photos from Manastee - I have always wanted to go there - I know Alaina Trout and see a few other familiar faces in the group. WOW - what wonderful work Evelyn does - so inspiring - wonder how long it takes her to do one of those pieces? Mel
Jackson sounds like he is going to fit right it. Thank you so much for adopting an older dog from a rescue. There are so many rescue dogs waiting to be adopted. I've had my foster pug for about 8 months and one day she will find her perfect forever home, but until then, she will stay with me and be spoiled!!! She is a former puppy mill momma who I'm sure never had any of the love she deserves.
Thank you again!
Pug hugs :)
Jackson definitely "needed" you as much as you needed him! I decided NOT to feel guilty when I adopted Rikki (a Jack Russell Wire-haired terrier) soon after losing my beloved Wheaten terrier, Wendy. I realized that waiting "til I was ready" did nothing for the animal out there who could really use a home. Rikki has presented challenges - she is high strung and nervous - had been at the shelter since she was 4 mos. old, and is around 2 yrs. of age. She has been afraid of my hubby - and all strangers--sometimes, even me!!! She doesn't like me out of her sight, and housebreaking has been a challenge, but she also has delightful, endearing qualities. She has made great progress--no longer growls and charges at the cats--even seems to like them!
Good to read that such a beautiful dog got the home he deserves. Lucky Jackson!
Oh, I'm so glad you were able to find Jackson. I'm sure he will be the perfect buddy for you!
That's a good story, Kris!!! And I love your new doggie!!! He will be so happy to live with you guys!!!
