The Full Monty

I want to share a comment from my last blog post that didn't show up in the comment section.  It is from my friend Saundra who wrote:
"Kris, you're a big tease and can't wait to see the "full monty."
Well, Saundra, here is the full monty!

This is my Boy Scout rug.  It is an adaptation from an antique rug that I saw years and years ago on a trip to an antique market in the Adirondack Mountains.  Way back then, I was just a newbie rug hooker and couldn't afford to buy the real thing.  My husband and I asked permission to photograph the rug and the seller agreed. I have always wanted to hook my own version of this rug.  I love the simple charm of the design.  A cabin in the woods in winter.  Perfect.  I started hooking the road and fence line.  It was easy because it was all straight-line hooking.  Then my poor design sat for years because I became frustrated with trying to reproduce the lovely wonkiness of the rest of the rug.  In December, I had time to hook and decided that this neglected project deserved to be finished.  I am delighted that it came out looking fairly similar to the antique rug.  It's been a long journey.
PS:  I swear if I ever run into the old antique Boy Scout rug again, I will buy it on the spot!  But what are the odds of that???

Kris,
What a great rug! I love the cabin, trees and sky. Well, I love the whole rug. I can imagine a loving mother making the original one you saw all those years ago...and placing it beside her sons bed so that when he got up on a cold winters morn his feet would be nice and warm. I'm glad you found time to finish your treasure and could share it with us. Hugs, Lori

*****you never know what you will
(re)discover on any antiquing trips. two rules: 1) if the shop is
calling out to you stop and explore! this is how you can re-find something. 2)when walking around a shop, always look down when you foot hits something...you never know if it will be exactly what you are looking for or you eyes will be diverted to find another treasure that you didn't see on the first look.
your rug looks great!

I love it, last year I punched up the girl scout pin for their 100 year anniversary. Then held a class at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilt and Fiber Arts so the girls could punch their own pins. It was a blast.

Har har, that was funny that you pasted my message and I had a great chuckle.

I love your new (old) rug design and you certainly did it justice.
